Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual and learning disabilities, speech impairment, emotional disturbance, and autism spectrum disorder. They struggle processing information and teaching them using different modalities is extremely important to make sure I reach all of my students.

My students are second and third graders with both emotional and academic delays.

Most of my students are performing 2 to 3 grades below grade level, but are still expected to reach grade level common core standards as all other general education students. They are students that love learning but realize they are facing a challenge. Most of my students benefit from tactile and visual learning.

My Project

My students need non-fiction books that are visually interesting and can support our reading and writing units as well as our science and social studies curriculum. These book topics not only focus on our curriculum but also in the individual interest of the children in my class.

My students crave knowledge and gravitate to non-fiction books the most.

My library is in desperate need of replenishing. They will use these books to work in small groups, do research, learn non-fiction traits and use them as mentor texts for their writing pieces, as well as partner/buddy reading and whole class instruction.
