My Project
There is never a dull day in 5th grade. We have 29 students in each of the three 5th grade classrooms we teach. Most of our students are just coming to the United States within the past two to three years. There is not a day that goes by that I don't marvel at how strong these children are coming from situations and places that would test the strongest adult. Yes, they are resilient.
The students learn English quickly and put so much effort into reading and writing English every day.
They translate to their parents to keep them informed about what is going on in the classroom and what they are learning. The cultural diversity in our classroom is inspiring as the children work together. We talk about how we have different customs and yet how much the same we all are. It's a great place to teach and I learn from the children every day.
Whether the students are home or in the classroom their personal supplies to assist with their learning are essential. No matter how much we start out within the beginning of the year the supply dries up quickly. With up to 30 students in a single classroom, our pencils, pens, and supplies can run thin.
