No Technology, But We Must Learn It. How?

My project needs two laptop computers and a printer in order to prepare my students for how learning will be done in the 21st century. They need to have basic computer skills regardless of the profession they choose.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Durkee's classroom raised $2,113

This project is fully funded

Although my school tries its hardest to prepare students for the 21st century's technology, that responsibility can't fall on the shoulders of one person. I think that each teacher should play a role in educating students in basic life skills, such as typing, writing a paper, letter, or putting together a presentation. The reality is that in today's world, if you don't understand computers, you will be left behind. I don't want any of my students to be left behind, so I am making a conscience effort to prepare them for life afte high school. Unfortunately, my students do not have the resources in my class to practice typing, to write a paper, to put a powerpoint presentation together, or to look at sources on the internet. I must depend on the one computer room in my school, but teachers cannot bring classes there because the computer room is another teacher's classroom. My students have suffered as a result of this. I can't look over their shoulder to help them cite a source or fix a fragment. Instead, I receive mediocre work that could have been much better and teaching has become extremely difficult. I am asking the generous donors who use DonorsChoose to do wonderful things to please consider my students. They are often left behind in many areas of their lives, but I refuse to let them graduate high school with only the knowledge of typing with their index fingers and never having used any of the other educational resources a computer can offer. I also plan on utilizing the computers to teach lessons on content. There are so many interactive social studies computer games and programs out there that I can have my students do if there is ever down time or they need some extra help on a topic. Without computers, however, I must depend on a pen and paper and that just doesn't motivate students like an interactive activity using up to date technology would. Please help my students not to get left behind in this rapid technological world.
