Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

PVS is located in an urban school district within Providence, Rhode Island. Our school provides a safe and caring learning environment for children Pre-K to 5th grade of many different cultural backgrounds. Forty-three percent of the students in our school receive special education services and more than 80% receive free or reduced-price lunch.

In our 1st Grade Inclusion class, we educate and care for children of all abilities, including students with Traumatic Brain Injury, Autism, ADHD, Spina Bifida, Developmental Delays and Emotional Disturbances.

We do our best to provide a caring, learning environment to all of our students on a daily basis. Going to school, for some, is going to a "safe place" where they are loved and cared for. Our goal for the school year is for our students to thrive to their full potential in all areas of development and to advance academically in a peaceful learning environment with the appropriate supports in place for ALL children.

My Project

No STUDENTS on the SIDELINES is a project that is extremely meaningful to my co-teacher and me.

We believe that it is essential that all children are given the opportunity to achieve in all areas of development and we refuse to see any of our students sitting on the sidelines anymore.

We do have a wheelchair swing, but other than that, our little kiddos in wheelchairs watch as their peers play.

Participation in different sports and gross motor activities during recess promotes academic, physical and social-emotional development.

This project includes adaptive equipment that will allow our little ones in wheelchairs to join in some parachute fun and roll a bowling ball from their seat down a ramp to get a STRIKE!! They can also play basketball with a floor net, socialize with peers as they dance with ribbons, toss beanbags and move their bodies to music. We have also included some sensory balls, scoop balls, retractable ball bands, zip balls and alphabet bowling pins!!

Many of our students have a desire to learn how to play soccer and kickball. This project also includes all of the materials such as soccer nets, jerseys balls and bases to make this possible!
