No Place Like Home: Take 3

Help me give my students decorative items such as wall lighting, pictures, and bulletin board banners and letters to create an engaging and welcoming safari-themed learning environment that feels like home.

My Project

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I school to the sweetest little learners. 84% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch, and 40% of my students are ELL (English Language Learners).

This is an important foundational year for Kindergarteners, and I want to provide a learning environment for my students that is nurturing, safe, and one in which they will be happy and excited to learn each day.

Creating a space that feels like home to them will help provide them with a comfortable place to learn all the basics as they become little mathematicians, scientists, historians, fluent readers, and authors of their very own stories.

Many of my students have never been in a school setting before, and with this being their first time being away from home in such a setting for an extended period of time each day, I want to create an inviting and peaceful classroom environment for them. I want to provide my little learners with a space that feels very much like home, so that they will feel comfortable and be excited to come to school each day ready to learn!

I want to instill in my students a love of learning every day in the classroom. I want to teach them that we are a family and that our classroom is a second home to them. I want to create a nurturing learning space in which they will feel safe, have fun, and be happy throughout our days together. Having safari-style lights, pictures, and cheerful bulletin board displays throughout the classroom will provide a safari-themed classroom that is fun for my students. Each of these items will help me create a learning environment for my students that simply feels just like "home."
