My Project
In my ELA class, we explore the themes of fear and humanity through a unit focused on classic and modern Gothic literature. On top of classic short stories, we like to incorporate modern novels that address the thematic ideas of fear. To develop our ideas of fear, I plan to implement literary reading circles, utilizing Jonathan Stroud's Lockwood and Co. and some other modern novels that incorporate the concept of Gothic fear. This unit will delve into the psychological and emotional aspects of fear, examining how it shapes individual and collective experiences. Through these novels, students will analyze how fear can be both a protective influence and a destructive force by exploring how the characters interact in dynamic environments and complex human nature.
These novels will encourage students to draw on connections between the Gothic genre and real-life experiences.
Discussions of these novels will center on how fear manifests in various forms, such as anxiety, phobias, or societal pressures. Through this integrated approach, students will develop a deeper understanding of the human condition related around fear.
