My Students

Crumple, crumple, crumple. Now smooth it out, smooth it out. Have you ever tried to smooth a piece of paper that has been crammed in a small space for a few hours? Well that happens in my classroom on a daily basis!

This year my school merged with another school.

We merged teachers, students, and materials. My students are energetic, hard-working, and eager to learn! My classroom is inclusive. That means I have a variety of disabilities in my general education classroom. This was difficult for some students at first because they had no experience with students with disabilities. After lots of explanation and role playing, we all realized that though each student is different, we all want to be treated the same.

My Project

Every year my students take what is commonly known as the ARMT (Alabama Reading and Math Test) in late March. This test measures what students have learned throughout the school year. Because most of my students consistently score below grade level, it becomes super important for me to help them catch up once they get to 5th grade. There are two parts of the reading and math tests. The part we need assistance with is the gridded/open-ended response portion of the test. This portion of the test requires my students to write a response to a given question (reading) or use computation to solve a problem on grid paper (math). As part of their review, I give my students a practice question in math and reading each day. We go over the steps they need to solve or write their response in whole and small group. If my students had a binder to keep all of this information in, they would be able to see their progression of writing/computation from the beginning of the year to test time.

Please, help us keep our review materials together, clean, untorn, and neat.

Organization is key to a productive classroom. If students have consistency and organization in their classroom, they are better able to learn and grow. Thank you so much for your help!!
