My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some students don't know where their next meal will come from, let alone where they are going to access the internet to research for a project. My students deserve to have opportunities that are equal to students that have much more than they do. My students deserve the world. This hard time has taken a real toll on my students. They are attempting to learn from home, with siblings, computers that are outdated, working parents, and many other distractions . I do my best to give them the tools to overcome their hardships and have a successful future.
Despite the hardships, my students always come to school with smiles on their faces and questions to ask.
They are eager to be part of the learning. They are constantly asking questions and promoting much deeper thinking. School is often the only safe and fun place for my students to be. I am so happy to be able to open my classroom back up to small groups! When my students are here, I know they are in a safe, positive environment, where they will get at least two meals a day.
My Project
Students were sent home with a laptop (usually a older generation) and a zip lock of supplies. A lot of them are really struggling with using a touchpad on their laptops to engage with their peers. Have you ever tried drawing or doing math problems with a touch pad?
A class set of computer mice would make it easier for students to access and interact with their peers, online from both home and school!
We will be starting in person small groups this week! My higher level readers are ready for a challenge with The Hatchet. Hands on a REAL book will really help during this crazy time!
