This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have 1,400 middle school students that live in the poorest zip code in our city. We are the biggest middle school in the entire city also!

COVID only made things more difficult for our students!

Despite having huge obstacles, we constantly have some of the highest achieving students, and our sports teams are consistently among the best in the region.

My Project

Anyone who has ever played or seen basketball or volleyball played on hardwood surfaces knows that one of the most frustrating things that happen to players is to slip and slide all over the place.

These mats and replacement mats will almost eliminate slips and slides!

We've never had these before, so usually, we have players wipe their shoes on their palms or a wet towel on the floor, but then their palms can't grip the ball that well, and those same towels will sometimes be used to wipe off their sweat unknowingly. COVID-related purchases decimated our sports' budgets to keep our students safe, but I hope that DonorsChoose can come to our rescue and help us get some items for when we return to sports in a few weeks.
