No More Plastic! We Are Greening Our Job Skills

My Students

The students I teach have amazing gifts and talents. They are young ladies and gentlemen who range from ninth grade to age twenty-one. I am the luckiest teacher in the history of teaching because I get to help them find and develop their gifts, talents, and abilities. Our school mission is to prepare students for the successful transition from school to work. Our focus is on exposing the students to opportunities in the community for employment and offering training to help them secure these opportunities.

Despite their limitations, our students can initiate positive changes in their community which will affect the environmental health of the world.

Several students I serve also have limited mobility and fine motor skills. Although some see their limitations, I see their strength, enthusiasm, and perseverance. Sometimes the students get discouraged by their limitations. This project will show my students that they can make a powerful contribution to strengthen their world.

My Project

Our school is a Job-Training school. Your donation will help purchase items that will prepare our students with disabilities for independent life after high school. With the purchase of forks, knives, and spoons our project will accomplish two important goals.

First, by replacing plastic with stainless steel utensils, our students will practice skills necessary to be responsible citizens in an eco-friendly world.

This will show our students that they can influence positive change in others to make a real and lasting difference.

Second, the use of stainless steel utensils gives our students the opportunity to learn job skills needed to work in restaurants and cafeterias such as washing/sanitizing the flatware and sorting/wrapping the utensils. There is no better way to prepare students then hands on skill training.
