My Students

My students are bright and charming students with a variety of speech and language challenges. They are funny and sweet, but struggle as students.

Some of my students are on the autism spectrum, others stutter, all have language-learning disabilities, and some have a tough time with listening comprehension.

They are a diverse group of city kids. They come from Haiti, the Dominican Republic, China, Puerto Rico and Vietnam. They are all funny, sweet, generous, and engaging. We don't have much, but we make the most of what we've got. We make it work, make it last, or just make do. We are a high poverty school.

My Project

Do you have a pencil? My students often don't. They lack even basic school supplies. I have supplied these items in the past, but it gets expensive covering the needs of 50+ students. My students need help starting the school year off right.

We are requesting the most basic school supplies for our neediest students.

Do you remember back-to-school shopping? I remember picking out the colors I wanted for each subject folder. Many of my students don't know this ritual. They come on Day 1 with empty backpacks – not prepared with even a pencil for the day. These items are a must!

These supplies are simple, pencils, erasers, highlighters, folders, post-it notes, and a pencil sharpener, but necessary. We'll make good use of them, but need help making sure we have enough for everyone for the year. We hope you'll consider supporting our efforts. Help us fill our students' backpacks and be ready to learn. We appreciate your consideration. Thank you!
