This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am teaching in a second grade at a high need, Title 1 school in Texas. I was placed at my school with Teach for America a few months ago and am quickly falling head over heels for the wonderful students I am working with.
The administration at my school is a little scattered and cannot provide consistent resources to the teachers. I have nothing other than a small, personal white board and a chalkboard for presentation in my classroom. My overhead projector broke and my school says they can't guarantee a new one. Our reading curriculum and math curriculum require an LCD projector and I don't even have an overhead. I really need help!
My literacy coach is lending me her overhead projector for the time being, but she will need it back before too long.
Instead of investing in an overhead projector, I see more value in moving along with the technological current and getting an LCD. My students would benefit immeasurably from having something besides a chalkboard and an unpredictable overhead. And, being the underdogs already by their low-income standing, I want them to experience something that their upper-class peers may take for granted. I can only imagine their faces!!!
Your help will make learning a more inviting, rewarding process in my classroom. My students deserve more than a chalkboard. They deserve all that they can get- and where they live and the kind of school they are at shouldn't limit them. Please help me teach them by supporting an LCD projector in my class! You will change their lives.
