This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach music to students in Pre-K to 6th grade. My elementary school is in Illinois and 90% of the students qualify for reduced or free lunch. These students are hungry for musical knowledge and hands on activities.
75% of the student body is Hispanic. In my classroom we study the music of many cultures, but we lack authentic instruments to perform this music both in the classroom and on the stage. Currently, when a piece of music has a conga part, I give my students buckets of various sizes.
The solution is a set of conga drums. This set also comes with a stand, so younger students who cannot control this large of a drum can still enjoy the authentic sound of the congas.
Your help will allow my students to use authentic instruments for music of their culture! It will allow us to use real drums instead of buckets I picked up free from local restaurants. Your donation will increase the energy and excitement in my classroom!
