Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th grade at a low-income public elementary school in Los Angeles.

My students are smart, funny, kind, and have wonderful hearts.

Many face immense challenges outside of school that they can't control. But what they CAN control is their learning and how they will succeed through hard work and determination. Even though they have challenges outside my classroom, they always bring their enthusiasm to learn and their drive to better themselves every day to class. I know my students will be successful because I truly believe in all of them.

My Project

What gets 6th graders excited about sharing their learning? When they get to use an iPad to record themselves and share it through the projector!

Listening to presentations could be drag, but what if kids had the opportunity to create and record a commercial or game show using an iPad!

Kids nowadays love watching YouTube and I want to utilize that love of creating YouTube videos to inspire them to share their learning and be creative with this tool. Some of my students last year created mini videos of their science experiments using their phones. An iPad would give them more access to editing tools and different takes. Part of being a 21st century learner is being technologically savvy and being able to operate an iPad is a skill all our students should have access to.
