My Students

My self contained classroom is made up of learners with disabilities in 3rd and 4th grade. Our students need visuals, interactive methods of teaching and small group support and technology to be successful.

My students are creative, animated and above all, love learning.

They show an eagerness and excitement for acquiring new skills and have grown in countless ways, both academically and socially. I've been lucky enough to see that students have gained confidence and are ready to take on new challenges and risks thanks to the support of our donors!

Our Title 1 New York City public school is in Queens. More than half of our students are classified as ENL learners and they receive services such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and counseling.

My Project

These books will be used as read alouds for my students. These are among the best multicultural and social justice children’s books that have been published. This extensive list of social justice texts will provide my students with knowledge about the realities of racism and inequality in our world today.

Even as young as 3rd and 4th grade, students are aware that not everyone in our country and the world are treated equally and these texts will facilitate tough conversations about privilege, the history of racism and inequality.

With these books my students can engage in conversations about the current realities in the world. Students will recognize what they can do in order to make the world a better place, where everyone is treated equally. Students can learn to listen, read, write and change the world!

Please help with my mission to educate my students on the topics that matter most. These are the lessons that will truly make the biggest impact on my students' lives. I appreciate you support!
