I am a Teach for America corps member teaching first grade at a charter school in Washington DC. My students are entirely low-income and all receive a free or reduced lunch.
My classroom has no desks. We have tables, which are fantastic for doing group work, but not so good for storing the supplies necessary to do this work. My students have folders and notebooks and pencils and books all of which they need to be able to access quickly from their seats. Right now, that is not happening because there is no place to store those items.
In order to allow my students to access these items quickly, and thus maximize their learning time, I would like a set of chair pockets for the classroom. These pockets hang over the backs of chairs and have two pockets, one for books and notebooks and one for smaller supplies like pencils.
Please help us stop wasting time running around the room to get supplies! We need to do as much learning and working as we can. My students are up against a lot in their young lives, and challenges like this are the easy kind to overcome.
