This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher teaching children that come from low-income families. Some are English Language Learners.
There are many obstacles my students face. Most come from single parent homes. A lot of the time the children are left at afterschool centers because the parent needs to work. Also, many of the parents have difficulty speaking English. This leads to problems with the children who are already struggling in school. They basically can not get the help they need. Many of these children who struggle are having problems with decoding and fluency. They need help with their sight words as well as their spelling.
I have asked for the following materials because I really think they will help these low-learners. They can play sight word games as well as practice their spelling and improve their vocabulary. They also would be able to use the material independently. I would be able to use the materials during center time. It would help me differentiate the instruction for them.
I believe the lower achieving children can make great strides when given the appropriate support and materials. I hope you can make this possible for me. Thank you very much!
