My Students

My students come from a variety of social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds. Many of them come in without having breakfast or able to have snacks to keep them fueled for the day. Which causes students to get frustrated, embarrassed, and ultimately shut down.

I teach fifth grade at a Title I school located in Central Florida, and 98% of our students are eligible for free/reduced-price lunch.

I teach reading, writing, and social studies to a total of 44 students.

I want all of my learners to have the ability to have snacks if they are unable to bring one in or if they arrive at school late without the opportunity of having breakfast. Keeping the students from going hungry will keep them focused and ready to be successful in my reading, writing, and social studies classes.

My Project

Imagine going to school every day and not having anything to eat since lunch the day before. The majority of my students come in each day starving asking for something to eat or asking for a mid-day snack. The snacks on the list will help ensure my students have the fuel to help them be successful not only in the classroom but for the entire day. No one wants to start their day off hungry and not have enough fuel to keep them focused on the tasks they have ahead of them.
