My Project
In order to decide which books I should order for my classroom library, I let my students have a voice in the selection. One student asked if we could have Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. What could be more apropos than a 6th grader asking for books about the most read 6th grader, Greg Heffley.
Reading books with pictures benefits struggling readers, special-needs students, and English-language learners.
Whether it is finding a book to read during homeroom or igniting a middle schooler's curiosity, having a library of comic novels excites my students. When I see my students browsing through our class library selection of books, students usually focus on the books with many pictures, interesting topics, and easy reading. Having these well-loved novels will continue to foster lifelong readers.
