Connecting the seen with the unseen can be difficult for third grade students, especially when it comes to systems in the body. It is very hard for students to visualize these systems without some type of models to give them perspective.
We have a goal of building an understanding of the form and function of the skeletal and muscular systems of the body. I am very hopeful that we can have more hands on activities for this unit.
I am a third grade teacher in an urban school that has a diverse population. My classroom also serves as an inclusion class. I am responsible for all subjects. Science is one of the subjects that I teach my students.
Models and games would be excellent resources for our school to enable students to better understand the skeletal and muscular systems of their body.
