Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are English language learners who have a thirst for learning. Our school is in a low-income​ urban neighborhood in Chicago. Ninety-eight percent of our school's students are native Spanish speakers and come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. In some cases, school is the only place where these students get the opportunity to hear and use the English language.

Students learn best when they feel safe and supported in school, both physically and emotionally.

2020 has been a challenging year for our students and we need to put their social, emotional support to the forefront.

My Project

Life is hard, and 2020 is turning out to be one of the most challenging school years. It's even harder for children who are just trying to figure things out. The books I am requesting will be useful tools to use as a read aloud to help students understand and control their feelings. I am committed to teaching students skills that will help them with school as well as in life. These skills include:

-Managing and understanding their emotions

-Understanding and being able to relate to others

-Making responsible decisions
