This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember when you realized that life was more expensive than you realized? Students need to know how small costs add up to slowly take over your income and how to plan for these unexpected costs to live the life they dream of.
My students are second English Learners, many from second or third generation immigrants in Southern California.
They come from families with working class incomes where uninsured medical costs can easily wipe out a family. They attend a medium sized public school where all students qualify for free/reduced lunch.
My Project
The resources you would be providing my students will create a dialog about choices and expenses they will face once they leave high-school. By reading a non-fiction text that clearly articulates how easily expenses can escalate and limit their future will provide knowledge and an opportunity for students to think proactively how to prepare for these aspects of life.
With our current economic reality, students need to be prepared for navigating the areas of life that come up unexpectedly and make choices that can prepare for these uncertainties.
Preparing students for living full, productive lives is a crucial skill that needs to be developed at the high school level. Your donation will help prepare my students and future students to help navigate the life they will live once they are out of high school.
