This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What better way to study the processes of the Earth than through the use of "Google Earth"?
My students attend a public high school in California.
They are predominantly second language and socioeconomically disadvantaged. Most aspire to go to college and are enthusiastic about learning science. Many do not even have access to the Internet at home.
My Project
We need need two iPads, a laptop, a printer, and a digital camera to improve their technology use in science class.Bringing iPads into the classroom will allow my students to interact with cutting edge technology. I will integrate the many apps available to enhance our science lab experience. We will use Google Earth and Skywatch for Geology and Astronomy activities. Students will do their lab write ups as well as document the progress of their work. Upon completion they will e-mail the finished lab write up product to me.
We need a laptop to catalog and save their work. The printer will be used for students to use when needed and the camera will supplement documenting their efforts.
This project will give my students the opportunity to use and learn about technology that they may not have access to outside of school.
Technology is the"hook" for my students. It is what helps to keep them interested and engaged. The use of this technology will allow me to give them much needed immediate feedback on their assignments.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
