This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning, students walk into our school buzzing and energetic, ready to learn. They come with questions, deep insights, and bright ideas.

Our ELA class is full of reading, writing, and technology!

Living in what was once considered "the poorest congressional district in the country," otherwise known as the South Bronx, our students face more challenges than some people we may know. We want to keep our kids in school to help them with their homework, provide small group instruction, and let them enjoy an hour of fun time!

My Project

After the ELA state exam in early April, my coteachers and I plan on reading our next classroom novel. It's titled "All American Boys" by the amazing Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely. We chose it as we felt it would be a book our kids can really, truly relate to.

This book hits on a lot of topics my students have faced: racism, stereotyping, and more.

We are all about making our curriculum as diverse and culturally responsive as possible. Starting our last unit by reading this book and diving deep into these issues my students have faced will be a great end to our 7th grade year.
