Help me give my students copies of the latest books in the series they love, like Dog Man, My Life, and Wimpy Kid.

My Students
I am the librarian for two elementary schools, both filled with creative, fun kids who like to read. They come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, but in the library, they share excitement over new books.
According to KidsCount, 43% of students in our district are eligible for free and reduced lunch – 7 out of 15 elementary schools are Title I – and 14% receive special education services.
Many students cannot get to the public library, so their checkouts at the school library are their main access to books.
I love when a book finds a champion, and word-of-mouth leads to a long holds list. I love when kids ask if they can do a book recommendation before I start a lesson. I love when I find out from them about titles I’ve never heard of. I love when a student who isn’t necessarily a voracious reader perks up when they hear about a book their peer loves and then comes to me later to ask for it.
My Project
While COVID has changed our routines, and I am teaching in the classrooms, the kids still know they can put in book requests, and I’ll deliver what I can to them.
However, I can’t deliver books we don’t have!
So many popular series have had new volumes come out in the past several months, and I’d love to have them on hand for my students. In addition, kids have shared series they enjoy that their peers are now asking for.
Adding both new volumes of beloved series and entirely new series will expand my kids' options for fun books that will make them WANT to read. By having as many entertaining books as possible available to them, my students - especially the reluctant readers - can choose reading as their go-to free-time activity.
