My Students
Bullying has become a problem all across the country. You can find bullies and children who are being bullied in every school. Hopefully, my second grade team can make a difference with quality character education materials for our entire second grade including the book, Bullying in Schools.
I teach twenty-two second graders in a very large elementary school.
We have approximately 700 students enrolled in our K-5 building. Each grade level has 100+ students in it. There can be over three hundred students on each playground during morning and lunch recesses! That means there are lots of interactions between groups of students. I feel it is vitally important to teach students how to treat one another with respect and kindness.
My Project
Our elementary students are supposed to be reading a balance of fiction and nonfiction within our classrooms. Our second grade students are in need of quality informational text at a second grade reading level. We want to teach science and social studies concepts through guided reading The perfect solution is an assortment of character education materials. I have selected a big book, read along books, and news magazines that all of the second graders can use to learn about being a good friend and classmate. They will be learning to read while learning how to treat others.
Students should have colorful and exciting books and news magazines to keep current on important issues affecting them.
Bullying is one of those issues, and our students need to learn how important it is to treat each other with kindness. This project will put a variety of quality books and magazines into the hands of one hundred second graders. The students will undoubtedly become better readers and better friends!
