This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 3rd grade in a high-need, diverse community comprised of a large number of at-risk, ELL students from low-income households... who have an INCREDIBLE thirst for knowledge and LOVE coming to our wonderful school. What would make it better?
I'd love to have the ability to distribute a Weekly Reader magazine to each of my students, as well as a co-teacher's class on a weekly basis! My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, as well as academic abilities, but what they all share is the excitement and eagerness to learn what is happening in the world around them. Weekly Reader is a perfect way for my 3rd graders to do this.
I'd like a subscription for each of my students for the upcoming school year, as well as a co-teacher's class. Weekly Reader is a weekly magazine that motivates students to read nonfiction. Weekly Reader Magazines feature nonfiction articles, higher-level maps, graphs, and diagrams, and more! Weekly Reader News Magazine content builds children’s general knowledge and reinforces the literacy scope and sequence used in our classroom.
WR News content builds children’s general knowledge and reinforces the literacy scope and sequence (PDF) used in your classroom.
You will have a hand in providing my 3rd grade students with a weekly opportunity to be exposed to challenging nonfiction reading material, and with my help, come to understand current issues of our world. My students will develop into critical thinkers and be able to communicate their thoughts and understanding about the community and world in which they are a member of!
