My Students

I teach twenty of the most amazing and unique second graders around! We are a Title I school where most students receive free or reduced-price meals. My classroom is very diverse, including English language learners, special education students, and students receiving speech, language, or behavioral supports.

What unites us as a community of learners is that each child comes to school with a deep desire to create, solve problems, and learn more about our world each day!

My students are curious and eager to explore new concepts. They are beginning to read for both information and pleasure.

This group of students was in kindergarten when schools shut down due to the pandemic in March 2020. They were affected, but remain resilient, brave, and positive!

My Project

My project is for Scholastic News magazines and a globe. My students are eager to learn about the news and current events. They love reading about places they have never visited and how other people live, work, and play! Scholastic News is perfect for providing kids with relevant news on topics that are both educational and fun!

Real-world topics and real student engagement using fresh, high-interest texts, videos, and activities will fuel my students' curiosity!

Your donation will help my students stay engaged in high-interest content delivered all year long—in print and on line digitally, as well. And because these magazines complement our social studies curriculum, it’s easy to implement as part of our regular curriculum with little to no extra planning. This is very helpful to me as a teacher!

I have also included a globe with this project so when we are reading about a topic or place, we can locate it and also address some geography skills in the process.

Having these news magazines and a new globe will truly be a blessing to our classroom!
