This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are all freshmen students who are in biology class. They are living on the southeast side of Chicago and attending a neighborhood high school. We have a large population of students who primarily speak Spanish and are learning English.
They are beautiful children who are extremely hard workers.
However, we do not have the resources to help them reach their highest potential.
Even though they are new to America, they come to school each and every day and preserver and develop as scholars. Our students are the best students.
My Project
Our freshman students use the wonderful Holt McDougal Biology textbooks. The textbooks we have are all in English, however more and more of ours students are newcomers who know little English when they come to us.
We are hoping to get the Spanish version of the textbook for each ELL (English as a Second Language Learner)!
This will allow all students to dive into the hard biology concepts, and have the resources to set them up for success.
This will help the teachers who do not know Spanish, but are committed to teaching each and every student in their classroom-no matter what their first language is.
