New Years Resolution: High School Critical Readers and Thinkers !

Help me give my students graphic novels of a complex text in our curriculum - Animal Farm.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Alexander's classroom raised $500

My Project

The specific items I’m requesting—graphic novels—will make a significant difference in my students’ learning by providing a visual and engaging way to understand complex themes in Animal Farm. The traditional text can be challenging for students with varied learning modalities, but graphic novels break down the story into manageable visuals paired with simplified text. This will not only support their comprehension of the story but also help them build literary skills, such as identifying themes, analyzing character motivations, and understanding allegory.

My goal for this project is to ensure that all my students can access and engage with the material, regardless of their learning needs.

By incorporating graphic novels, I aim to make Animal Farm more relatable and easier to grasp, fostering deeper discussions and critical thinking about its complex themes. This project will also help my students gain confidence in analyzing literature, a skill they can carry forward in their academic journey.

What makes my students special is their diversity, resilience, and curiosity. They come from different backgrounds, with many identifying as Black or Latino, and face unique challenges. Despite this, they are eager to learn and grow when given the right tools and support. They deserve access to resources that meet their needs and help them thrive, and this project is one step toward providing the high-quality education they deserve.
