This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students enter second grade lacking the basic tools they need to begin the school year. One of the most exciting things about the first day of school is the joy of new school supplies. I teach in a very low-income school and few of my students have the joy of new supplies.

My students live in a high crime, high poverty area.

The majority of our children come to us without school supplies of any kind. They do not have the new clothes or shoes and seldom even a box of crayons. These supplies that will be theirs alone will inspire them to focus on learning.

My Project

I can remember the first day of school and the excitement of having new tools to begin the year. Having the necessary supplies will allow my students to focus on learning. The first days of school are important to every child. I want them to walk into our room and see that everything they need to learn and have a great year are all ready in place.

I want my students to enjoy the new school and look forward with anticipation to what they will be learning.

Having the necessary tools will encourage them to see school in a very positive light. My students have so little. It is important for them to walk into their new classroom and realize that all the tools they need are there just for them.
