This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diverse learners in a self contained K-2 special education classroom. Each child is a unique child with many wonderful qualities. Each child also requires an individualized learning experience to promote learning. The students will be joining a new classroom in a new school building in February.

The students are visual learners and rely on a great deal of visual supports.

Many of them are also non verbal and require additional resources to make learning beneficial and effective for them. The students use visuals to support their daily routines and individualized learning. The students also rely on a variety of instructional approaches as they all require a different strategy or success. They love to explore sensory and tactile items. They enjoy sensory play and having materials that they can use to help them focus on daily tasks.

My Project

This project with help to provide resources for a brand new self contained K-2 classroom. The resources will provide a variety of sensory materials for our students and instructional materials to support learning.

Providing an opportunity for sensory exploration is essential to student learning.

Our students require sensory materials in the classroom for various reasons. Sensory materials can be used as motivation for student to work towards a reward of their choosing when work is completed to reach academic goals. We are requesting weighted therapy aides, sensory balls, fidget toys and a variety of other items they are well liked by our students. The materials help calm students down when they are upset or need a break. Sensory Materials can also help support language development for non verbal students, practice fine motor skills, improve focus and concentration. We also need new classroom materials to facilitate learning and provide students with opportunities for growth. This includes a magnetic white board for instruction and learning. This will be interactive and used for providing students with tactile learning experiences. Tactile activities promote student motivation and interest for learning.
