it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every year kids need to improve their reading. Sometimes the difficulty is finding interesting text. Sometimes the issue is the child's aversion to reading. The sweet spot of a diverse library is that it battles both of these obstacles.
Each year the classroom library has gotten a little more polished.
My new students look around the room eager to get their hands on the books that they have heard about, but have yet to read. My older students come by my class and ask if the 48 Laws of Power has been returned yet. My former students, now in college return and discuss the way that reading has changed their lives. Teenagers who never got more than a few pages into a book have now finished a double digit amount of texts.
This project will continue to allow my children to find themselves in the literature. These books will allow my students to lose themselves in the pages and art. These stories will inspire the future comic book writers, poets, politicians, artists and teachers that every book opens up another world and a path to a world of opportunities.
