This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am entering my second year of teaching at HHS in Bridgeport, CT. I am so excited to get started and meet my new students this year. I aim to create a community and culture in my classroom that feels like home for my students. Last year, I was able to provide the necessary supplies needed for success within my classroom; however it was out of my own pocket. I am trying to give my students the experience they deserve with the materials necessary to learn. This year, my students will be reading novels and paired texts revolving around current social events. As we discuss topics relating to the themes of social justice, identity, race, racism, and self-acceptance, my students will use their notebooks to reflect, make text to self, text to text, and text to world connections, and take educational notes (annotating). We will start our year off with Dear Martin by Nic Stone, and then move into a class reading of Monster by Walter Dean Myers. They will explore and analyze themes and characters that they feel most connected to.

I am very passionate about my students and their success both within the classroom and out of the classroom.

They have tremendous personalities and deserve the best education. Please help me provide the experience they deserve. Anything helps. Thank you!
