My Students
After a summer of watching TV and playing outside, students are hesitant to start reading again. With new, exciting books available to my students, it will be easier for them to make the transition into school again. New books will help them remember how much they love to read!
With 82% of my students receiving a free or reduced price lunch, it is clear they come from families who struggle to make ends meet.
Because of this, they rarely have books available to them at home. Since books aren't available to them at home, I want books at school to be as accessible as possible.
My Project
Reading is such an important part of student learning. Reading helps students with vocabulary and comprehension. In addition to that, it can also be used as a healthy escape for students like mine who live in poverty. I want to be able to show my students that reading is a fun, pleasurable activity that doesn't have to be limited to school time.
Most of my students don't have books available to them at home, so they take a break from reading each summer.
In turn, it's a challenge to get them reading again as the new school year begins. Having brand new, exciting books will encourage them to become readers again.
