My Project
Next year, I will be transitioning to a new school and teaching a different grade level—fourth grade. As I prepare for this change, I’m seeking to build a classroom library that supports both literacy and character development. I am in need of accessible, engaging chapter books that are appropriate for younger readers but still rich in meaning.
Specifically, I’m looking for books that explore essential themes such as diversity, empathy, tolerance, and kindness.
These are values I want to instill in my students early on, and I believe literature is a powerful way to do that. Authors like Katherine Applegate do a remarkable job of weaving these themes into stories through imaginative narratives, often featuring animals and elements of nature to connect with children on a deeper level.
Having a selection of these books available in my classroom would not only support my students’ reading development but also help nurture a more compassionate and inclusive mindset. These are life lessons that children need now more than ever, and your support in helping me provide these resources would make a meaningful difference.
