Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Friendships, Greek gods, insects, immigrants, and activists...these are a few of the topics that my second graders and I will investigate this year. I am excited to guide them through these explorations and participate in their growth as readers, writers, artists, storytellers, and individuals.
Our goal as a bilingual second grade community is to foster our students' development linguistically, academically, culturally, and emotionally.
To achieve these goals, we need materials that open our eyes and minds to new ideas and help us to express our thinking. In a school with many low income students, books are one way to travel through worlds and lives without leaving our room. Beautiful products are the way in which we can share our deep learning with the world. Tools for mindfulness are how we can remain focused and dedicated to our learning community and continue to succeed in an often chaotic environment.
As a teacher, I constantly grow and learn with my students, as together we explore new worlds, new skills, and new relationships. This wondrous process can occur anywhere and anytime, but with the necessary supports, it can be more fluid and constant, laying the foundations for continuing success.
My Project
This year our dual language program expands into second grade. We are so excited about the opportunity for our students to continue to grow in their two languages. This project provides the foundation upon which our classrooms will grow. The books in this project will enrich our independent reading library, as well as provide tools for students to intentionally expand their language (dictionaries!). The paper and binding machine will help us produce beautiful books of original writing. The breathing ball will remind us to focus our energies and breathe, regardless of the distractions surrounding us.
Your donation will help guide our community of curious, creative, energetic students into the next phase of their education: academically, linguistically, and emotionally.
