My Students
Help us acquire new words with fun and exciting puzzles and games! I teach my students in differentiated small groups all day long. One of the things that we find ourselves lacking is materials for quality vocabulary practice that does not involve pencil and paper in their learning centers.
I teach in a Title I school that serves a wide variety of students.
We have many students who are learning English for the first time. We serve 50% of our students free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. I teach students who come from good families who only want the best for their kids. My students work hard to meet my high expectations and know that they have my support and the support of their families.
My Project
I teach reading in small groups based on their needs and their strengths. While I am teaching a group, the other students are at one of three different stations. One of the stations that they go to daily is the games station. I found some wonderful games that will make their time at this station more engaging. One of the resources that I am requesting is a set of vocabulary games that is leveled based on basic vocabulary understanding. The game cards give riddle-like clues to help kids figure out the words. It looks really fun. Another resource that we need is a set of vocabulary matching games that deal with context clues and synonyms. These kits ask the kids to match a word with its meaning or synonym. They are quick and fun while being great practice. These materials will help my kids practice the skills and vocabulary that we are learning in my small group. They will also help us review and remember words that we have worked on in the past.
This project is important to us because without quality materials to use during the game station, my teaching and their practice is less effective and efficient.
We need these games to help us continue to have quality reading group sessions and independent center practice of their newly learned vocabulary words.
