Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are kind and loving individuals who have been identified with various different significant disabilities. They come to school every morning with big smiles and big hearts. Throughout the day students are presented with many different learning activities which are designed to help solidify the skills that were introduced throughout high school. The students within this classroom are encouraged to learn various sustainable farming procedures, horticulture concepts, and the production of urban farming. This class focuses on teaching students the job readiness skills they will need for gainful employment in a garden or horticulture type of environment.
My special education students are all between the ages of 18-22 and are working on vocational, transition, and career readiness skills in the area of horticulture.
As our students continue to learn how to build various garden structures, newer and better tools are required. This donation will help us to update our tools and teach students how to properly and safely use a wide variety of tools needed to construct different structures for the garden. Students are learning how to construct different planter boxes, trellis, and fun decorations for the garden. These tools will allow us to get into tighter spaces with much more ease, thus allowing us to expand our wonderful school program.
