Help me give my students new tools to build a more competitive robot.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Johnson's classroom raised $333

My Students
My robotics team is an eclectic collection of students from AP and IB students to students with special needs. We are one of the oldest teams in South Carolina. In recent years, my team has increased from 17 to 50 students. The students not only attend my school, but a few are home schooled. With this degree of diversity, you could almost suspect the team to be fragmented. However, the team is very much like a family, with everyone supporting one another.
The team does more than build robots.
They learn the soft-skills that are important in college and future careers. They learn how to work together, communicate their ideas in ways that others can understand, and they learn to listen to others. During competitions, they recognize that they need to cooperate with other teams to build a winning alliance.
My Project
It’s amazing how many tools robotics students use on a day-to-day basis during our 6-week build season. There are many times when two or three different groups all need a 3 mm socket. Students do learn patience during these times, but when every minute counts during a 6 week build - patience sometimes runs thin. When we attend a competition, we have a pit area (just like NASCAR). While the robot is in the pit, adjustments and repairs are made. Sometimes other teams will as to borrow our tools. With Gracious Professionalism being at the heart of our team, we will gladly loan our tools to other teams. With tools being used and borrowed, some of them are lost or just worn out.
Having the proper tools, students are able to build a better robot.
The tools are needed to replenish tools lost (especially the wrenches). These are not the exotic cameras or sensors that many teams ask to receive, but the basic needs of a growing team.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
