I am a teacher in my 15th year teaching in a low-income, high poverty area. The population is 99% African American. We are located in the on the west side of Chicago. I teach Algebra, Geometry, Algebra-Trig and College Algebra and coach Track and Field. The population of our school is under 400 students, but they should have as many opportunities as everyone else.
My students are looking for the chance to leave Chicago for education to better their lives and their family.
I hope that all of my students that I have worked with throughout the years will succeed.
My Project
TI-84 calculators will improve the learning experience of my students. The calculators we have in the school are at least 5 years old. They are starting to die on us. Even with new batteries we are having problems.
My students want to have the same experience to be prepared for college as other students.
The TI-84 calculators will do that for them. This first project of 10 calculators will be a start. I am hoping to eventually get full classroom set of 30. The quicker these are fulfilled the quicker we can get a classroom set. College bound is the goal!
