Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My recent immigrant students come from over 50 countries and speak over 30 languages. They are not the children of United Nations employees but of car service drivers, construction workers, and bodega owners. They are all studying the history of their NEW country for the first time and love it.
Our school has 380 students who are all recent immigrants, come from over 52 countries, and speak over 30 languages.
They truly work as hard as they possibly can, are hungry for knowledge, and strive to improve their English/history each day. They come from so many different countries and are supportive and empathetic of each student regardless of where they come from -- in their eyes, they are all in the same position and need to help and support each other to find success. They love United States history and learning about the different groups that struggled for equality in our country and about the countless individuals that helped shape the country to what it is today.
My Project
Each of these items will enhance my ability to teach to my students; both at home and in the classroom. I need Bluetooth headphones for my remote classes and Zoom calls, a writing pad so I can create and make my Zoom calls more interesting, a voice amplifier to help me project my voice in the classroom when teaching in-person (with my windows open for ventilation and with the school on one of the busiest roads in Brooklyn (Flatbush Ave. Extension @ The Manhattan Bridge) and a magic mouse so I can control my computer while I walk around the classroom. It is a really tough time right now and I know that these items will make the experience more manageable for everyone!
