This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my first year teaching in the New York City public schools after teaching three years in private school. The transition has been tough, but things are slowly falling into place for me, my students, and my classroom environment.
My classroom hadn't been used in three years, and the veteran teachers took most of the "good stuff" that was in the room while no one was teaching there. It's taken some time, but I am finally getting the room into better shape. The only thing I would still love to have is an easel--not the kind that you paint on, but the kind I can put chart paper on and use to write on during lessons.
My students love to come to the "meeting area" of the class, where we do all kinds of group activities. This is where the easel would really be useful: it would be perfect for a read-aloud activity and a shared reading lesson. My students are underprivileged and don't have a lot of great things in their lives. I would love to give them a great classroom, one that they enjoy coming to every day. The easel would help accomplish this and would be a great asset to the room. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
