My Students
I work at a diverse, urban Title I school in Louisville, Kentucky; our students are African American, white, Hispanic, and from other races. We have many students who are learning English as a second language. Our school is in an area with high poverty. More than 93 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
I work with striving readers and writers who, despite their struggles, are eager to learn and work hard each day.
My students face many barriers to academic success, but it is my goal to help them succeed and reach proficiency.
My Project
In my classroom, students write each day. I am requesting some new folders and new markers for students to use during writing. Allowing students to use markers during writing increases student engagement. Markers make writing more fun! I would also like a Bouncy Band to complete the set of bands at our small group table. These bands have really helped to increase my students’ focus; kids can bounce and work without anyone else noticing.
By donating to this project, you will help to provide a variety of new supplies for my students, which will ultimately help to increase student achievement in both reading and writing.
