This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have some incredible life stories that I love to listen to as I learn about each of them. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, a positive environment, and unique learning experiences.
What makes these students so special is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.
Each year, I learn a great deal about my students and about the experiences they've had and the places they've been. In a world where new technology and traditional education is always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me as a teacher to expose my students to special opportunities, unique trips, and a comfortable setting where learning is evident and expected, and all students will remain engaged so that we can try new things and always remain successful. I hope to engage disengaged students by giving them reasons to come to school and get excited about learning!
My Project
We all love food, right? My students are no different. Our school offers 100% free lunch, plus after school "dinner" at dismissal time. These offers are imperative for our students who may not otherwise have anything to eat. In hopes of getting our students to stay after school and encourage them to attend school sports, clubs, tutoring, and activities, it always helps to be able to offer them snacks.
The snacks I'm requesting for this project will be stored in safe plastic bins in our new Student Academic Center which is starting to come together!
Students are so excited to see all the components of this new Student Academic Center arrive to my classroom, and this project is the third installment!
Our hopes through this project and this new student center is to provide a safe, comfortable space for students to stay after school to get work done, stay on-track, build relationships with their teachers and peers, have a space to be creative and have fun, and ultimately enjoy school and learning. Any way we can support our students to succeed is important in my eyes, and this project will help to make that goal a reality.
