This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will serve approximately 40 students with my two classrooms combined for the 2019-2020 school year with a wide range of abilities, needs, and concerns. My students are in a low income/high poverty school in which more than 75% of the students receive free or reduced-price meals.

Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.

When children have a strong foundation of learning, they are able to stay on track to remain in school, graduate, and pursue post-secondary education and training to successfully transition into adulthood.

Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. No matter who enters through my classroom doors, they become part of our school family.

My Project

We need a little help getting the school year started.

The following items will make the classroom more welcoming and organized.

We need a door bell because we are in a portable in which it is hard to hear when someone is knocking at the door because of the loud A/C. Color stickers will be used on folders for easy identification of small groups. Pushpin clothes pins would be used for hanging student work. We need a picnic basket to be used as a treasure box. We also need prizes to fill it up with. We need stampers for use on conduct charts and student work. We need Smead folders for portfolios. We need desk items to keep our school work organized. We need a new working stapler in our classroom. We need a STEM activity to use in small groups. The fidget bands are needed in case we need to accommodate ADHD students. We would also like wildlife decals to decorate our classroom with our camping theme.
