My Students

Our elementary school is located in Columbus, Georgia. We are a high poverty school with several high risk students attending from all over the world. The students in my classroom have special needs that require that they be pulled from the general education classroom to receive a modified curriculum. Abilities range from Autism to ADHD and from speech to occupational therapy. My goal is for each child to grow throughout the school year and become as successful as possible by achieving all of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals.

Unfortunately, my students have not been exposed to many life experiences.

They don't know why reading and math are important to their future. They do not know what they want to be when they grow up. They do not know what the world has to offer and are therefore are just not motivated in the classroom.

I have been researching several different types of projects to help my students get more exposure to life experiences, figure out their personal strengths and weaknesses, and decide what they want to do with their future.

However, many of these projects require technology that we don't have in our classroom Four old laptops isn't enough.

My Project

I am working with students who need to be able to move around while also listening and being active in the lesson. Flexible seating would give them a great opportunity to be able to feel comfortable, be active and still work hard. The building materials and darts are to help students have more hands on materials and also helps to work on social emotional behaviors that we have in the classroom. Lastly, the shredder is needed to shred confidential documents. Please help our classroom be the best it can be!!
