This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology is key in providing children the opportunity to learn via various learning modalities. The multimedia projector will allow my students to interact through educational programs and PowerPoint presentations that will fully engage students visually, tactually, rhythmically, and spatially.
I teach 40 English Learner Kindergarten students in our schools Dual Language Program, in an inner city school in California.
I team teach with a fabulous Kindergarten teacher who teaches our English Language Arts Program and I teach the Spanish component of our Language Arts Program. Our students are extremely bright, enthusiastic and come to school eager to learn everyday, despite the poverty and low socio-economic status that surrounds our school community. We are a Title I school, where approximately 85% of our students receive free or reduce breakfast and lunch meals.
Due to our schools district budget crises, we are unable to provide our students with essential tools such as technology to engage our students to reach their full potential. Unfortunately, the hardworking and dedicated families that reside within our school community do not have the means to purchase a computer or Internet service that could undoubtedly support and enhance their learning at home.
My Project
The Multimedia projector will enhance, motivate, inspire and engage my students to learn through various modalities, when used with my existing computer lap top which was generously donated through Donors Choose. With the use of our schools wireless Internet, I will be able to access an array of education websites, specifically our schools newly adopted language arts program (Spanish/English) and project images of pre-decodable stories, games, pictures, graphic organizers and all thematic topics across the curriculum. This is important because English Learners need many visual cues as they acquire a second language. My students will be able to point, track and read stories that are projected on the screen. They will be able to identify and label various graphic organizers that are projected on the screen to engage them in the writing process. The multimedia projector will also enhance presentations during our monthly parent meetings to reinforce academic learning standards.
The Multimedia Projector actively engaged my English Leaner students last academic school year with much success and academic growth.
Unfortunately, due to our schools budget crises, we are unable to service/maintain existing projectors, which we only have a few to share among a large staff, and those unfortunate teachers, like myself have begun the school year without a multimedia projector. I can not emphasize enough the importance of incorporating a projector into my everyday instruction.
