My Students
My students are thoughtful, inquisitive and risk takers. My students trust the work they are challenged with every time they step into my English Language Arts classroom. More importantly, they trust me to facilitate a journey throughout the year that pushes them to not only become better students but to truly discover who they are and what is important to them, not just as scholars but as part of humankind.
All students have the capacity for greatness, and our learning together is one more step on the road to discovering where the road will take them.
My students come from all over the area to attend our school. As a teacher of high school juniors and seniors this year, I am able to support the development of skills essential for our kids as they take on our rigorous English curriculum. It's an honor and a privilege to teach them each day and I never cease to be impressed by their capacity for greatness.
My Project
This is the third year I have done National Novel Writing Month - Young Writers Program with my seniors. It has been an overwhelming success with almost half writing upwards of 30K each in 30 days. While not all my students "won NaNo" as we call it, each of them persevered through an incredibly challenging writing journey, gaining insight into the stamina a novelist needs and developing a new skill that they can transfer to college writing in the fall.
My students writing goals ranged from 10,000-45,000 words and now, with the help of Blurb, each student can have their own hard copy, in the form of a trade paperback, to have as an artifact from their writing journey.
This year has by far been the most successful to date in my classroom. As an educator, I would be thrilled to be able to celebrate their successes, big and small, with this token of my pride that they can take with them.
