My Students
As the school librarian, my job is to provide updated and relevant information to my students. The current nonfiction collection in my school is just not cutting it. Neither are the picture books! My school has mostly African American and Hispanic students so diversity is a big concern.
Getting picture books that represent them and where they can see themselves having adventures or doing amazing things is crucial to creating a lifelong interest in reading.
My school is small, around 300 students, but this gives me a chance to get to know them individually. As a second year teacher, COVID has made this incredibly difficult. I would like to make sure they have an updated collection.
My Project
I've been looking for a blocked rug to help my students stay on task at storytime. Unfortunately, they're rather expensive so I'm hesitating on requesting a new rug when there are many other important things that our students need. I've also requested some new books for my diverse population of students. We're a very small school with about 300 students but the kids and staff have a lot of love to give and so much to contribute. They simply need the opportunity. Please help improve the library a little at a time.
